Narrative of a Survey of the Intertropical & Western Coasts of Australia Performed Between the Years 1818 and 1822. Two volumes.

London: John Murray, 1827, 1826. First edition, volume two scarcer 1826 imprint. Beautifully rebound in full polished tan calf circa 1920. Spine in six compartments, red and deep green title and volume labels in two compartments with remaining four compartments elaborately stamped with corner and central devices and wide raised bands with 5 serrated rules. Boards with two gilt rule panels and one decorative rolled panel. Light but not objectionable foxing throughout, maps and plates in excellent condition save for modest foxing and occasional slight darkening. Overall a very handsome, wide-margined set. The pair housed in custom modern cloth slipcase. Item #157213

Hill and Abbey note the first edition as 1827 while Ferguson notes that there is a rare variant 1826 imprint for which he gives a lenghthy explanation. Our volume two is the scarcer 1826 with errata slip bound in at rear. Volume two miss-paginated lacking page numbers 625-6 but with continuous text.
