Abdy, a noted author on racisim and race relations in the US, made this tour with members of the Society for the Improvement of Prison Discipline and the Reformation of Juvenile Offenders to report on prison conditons in the US. He also had close contact with US abolitinoists and was involved in the formation of the Anti-Slavery League.
