4th The Queen's Royal Regiment : An Unofficial War History with Chapters on the 2/5th Battalion

Croydon: H. R. Grubb, 1931. Second edition. Red cloth with gilt lettering. Minor crimp to upper spine, spine slightly sunned, overall near fine to fine in custom mylar cover. Item #145701

This “unofficial” history of The 4th Queen’s Royal Regiment “chief purpose is to preserve together with the soldiers’ names that intimate anecdotage too often lost in formal war history.” It follows the battalions of the 4th as they served during World War I in India, the Middle East, and Europe. With 14 pages of illustrations and photos and a foreword by Winston Churchill, this history shares the daily lives of soldiers from the regiment, whether a story about the loss of a beloved officer, tales of a soldier so tall his feet dragged in the sand as he rode a borrowed donkey or the creative use of chicken wire to create a functional “road” for marching through the desert.
