Sell to Us

We are always buying a wide variety of books. Please email photos to books@hermitagebooks.com following the instructions below:

What photos should you send?

Clear and large photos containing 10-15 books per photo, spines faced out, will suffice for our initial review. If you have what you believe are rare, valuable, or signed first-editions, it is sufficient to specify details in the body of the email accompanying the photos.

What do we buy?

We only purchase hardback books, with the exception of fine and/or scarce paperback originals. Regardless of age, condition is key—no writing/highlighting and as issued (complete and with dust jacket). The only exceptions to this being highly collectible, rare, or antiquarian books.

What do we NOT buy?

Textbooks. Encyclopedia sets. Anthological Sets (such as Harvard Classics, International Collector's Library, etc.). Magazines (Including National Geographic). Yearbooks. Photographs. Maps. Incomplete sets of any kind.

You emailed your photos. What's next?

Our buyers will review your photos and respond, typically within 72 hours due to the high volume of emails we get. If our buyers believe your books are good candidates for purchase they will set up an appointment for you to bring your books into the store for closer evaluation. For large collections we will schedule a house visit. Please note that if you request us to evaluate an extensive collection at your home we may require an agreement assuring us of first right of refusal for purchasing the books due to the amount of time committed to assessing a large collection.

We do not offer appraisals. We may make an offer to purchase a book at a certain price, but this is not an appraisal or estimate of its retail value. Due to the volume of inquiries we receive, please only use the contacts provided

Please keep in mind that we do not purchase all books offered to us. Many books are neither rare nor first editions, have condition or completion issues that remove them from our consideration, or are not representative of our stock.

We are currently prioritizing purchases in the following areas:

  • Fine Bindings
  • Science Fiction and Fantasy
  • Mythology, Fairytale, Folklore
  • Academic, Recent (within the last 10 years) World History
