LEGEND ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE MOUNTAINS
"There is a young legend developing on the west side of the mountains. It will, inevitably grow with the years." Denver author, William E. Barrett's parable, just the length of a novella, explores this legend. It follows Homer Smith, a young, Black man, after he stumbles upon a group of German-speaking nuns building a chapel in a field in Colorado. He does not know why stops to help. But he does and so begins the development of an unlikely connection as the nuns learn English from Smith while he catches first an obsession and then a sense of purpose in completing the chapel.
This first edition copy is inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper.
