APPLYING SCIENCE TO MYTH

Donald Alexander Mackenzie (1873-1936) captured cutting edge ethnological and anthropological approaches in the early twentieth century, as myth sciences took off. Starting his career as a Scottish folklorist, he expanded to researching global myths and origin stories more widely as he developed some of his notable arguments for Buddhist diffusionism, the belief that Buddhists colonized the globe in ancient antiquity, and that early modern humans living in Britain were racially akin to northern Africans.

Mackenzie's Egyptian Myth and Legend highlights his expertise, as he parses through ancient Egyptian mythology, taking particular interest in songs and poetry, in volume five of Gresham's expansive series, Myth and Legend in Literature and Art.
