FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF CHILDREN'S ILLUSTRATION
First published in 1905, The Golden Goose Book showcases L. Leslie Brooke’s signature blend of humorous invention and anthropomorphic charm, featuring his classic renditions of The Golden Goose, The Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, and Tom Thumb. Alongside the illustrious careers of Beatrix Potter, J.A. Shepherd and others, L. Leslie Brooke remains one of the definitive illustrators in the Edwardian nursery tradition, helping to shape the visual vocabulary of early twentieth-century children's literature.
This attractive c. 1930s edition (based on publisher name and internal title lists) retains all 32 original color illustrations and is presented in its original pictorial cloth binding. Of particular note is the surviving original dust jacket. A bright and desirable example of one of Brooke’s most enduring works.
[Peppin/Micklethwait, "Brooke"].
