THE ALLEGORICAL BAMBI

Felix Salten's Bambi is a childhood classic, brought into many imaginations through the wholesome Disney movie. However, banned by the Nazis in 1935 and burned as Jewish propaganda, Salten originally imagined Bambi as a prophetic and parabolic affront to the dangers of Jewish persecution.

Not only does Salten's story serve as a political allegory, this edition's translator, Whittaker Chambers, published this first work in translation in 1928 and was then ordered underground by the Communist party as a Soviet spy.

This early 1930s reprint allows us to revisit the story that many of us only knew as children with a new perspective.
