COMPLETE HISTORY OF THE BATTLE OF BALL'S BLUFF
Military history is best written by those involved in the milieu of the soldiers themselves, and George Bruce's account of the Twentieth Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry does exactly that. A lieutenant colonel for the Thirteenth New Hampshire Volunteers himself, Bruce compiled diaries and letters from members of the "Harvard Regiment" to craft a fully embodied history of the company's experiences in major battles like Gettysburg and Antietam. Bruce's account offers one of the most complete accounts of the regiment's trial by fire at the Battle of Ball's Bluff, as well as a complete roster.
