ALCOTT'S ROMANCE NOVEL

Three publisher's clamored over the rights to Eight Cousins, even before Alcott had written it. Following spoiled and sickly Rose Campbell as she goes to live with her aunts, uncles, and seven boy cousins after the death of her parents, Alcott's Aunt-Hill series incorporated the elements she was loved for: strong feminine influence and a realistic coming-of-age story. Rose in Bloom, picking up when Rose returns from Europe as a young lady, diverged from her well-known path and was the closest the unmarried author would ever come to writing a romance novel.

These charming 1902 and 1903 reprints feature an owner's Christmas gift inscriptions on the front free endpapers, inscribed to Florence in the year of publication.
