"THE HORROR! THE HORROR!" NO MORE
Ever wondered what Charles Marlow's journey up the Congo would look like on a different planet? Well, Grand Master of SF Robert Silverberg turned Conrad's Heart of Darkness extraterrestrial in Downward to the Earth (1970). Silverberg first unfurled his planet of misty jungles and psychic, elephant-like Nildoror across four Galaxy Magazine publications, transforming Conrad's nihilistic tale into Edmund Gunderson's profound spiritual rebirth. Watch Silverberg shift science fiction to the philosophical and literary realm in an anti-colonialist novella made for the 70s.
